Cape Town Wedding Planner Reflection: Laura & Michael’s Organic Wedding
Behind the mystical walls of Babylonstoren in Franschhoek, on a sunny day in January, 2014, Michael and Laura became one as they tied the knot in the presence of their closest family and friends in a garden ceremony, as the breeze gently blew through the trees above them, and we’re so excited to share some of the amatuer pictures we took from our camera that day. Laura is South African, Michael is from Hong Kong and together they live in Australia, and chose South Africa as their wedding destination, specifically, the fruit, wine and eco farm, Babylonstoren in Franschhoek, situated in the Cape Winelands which boasts stunning gardens, beautiful accommodation and fantastic restaurants.
Laura and Michael’s ceremony took place on a grassy lawn, under the shade of a big oak tree, beside a flowing stream on the Babylonstoren property.
We wanted to accentuate the natural beauty of our suroundings so kept the ceremony setup simple by using white Wimbledon chairs, tied with small bunches of flowers, using plenty of green foilage to match the natural setting.
At the reception, guests were all seated, family style at one long table so that everyone could sit together for a more festive atmosphere.
The tables were decorated with the most glorious organic detail and bright green pops of plants and vegetables were seen throughout the room.
Fresh green limes provided additional colour along the tables and fitted the them and venue perfectly.
What we loved most about this particular decor theme was the variation of green plants and the interesting and beautiful specimens that were used to fill the table.
Above the table, we hung thick, fresh bunches of lavendar which provided a lovely fresh smell throughout the room, alongside nake light bulbs hung at various legnths which gave the room a warm, soft glow for a touch of romance.
For guest seating, we chose simple, white picnic chairs to line the tables and further add to the relaxed look and feel of the wedding.
The stationery was perfeclty suited and added a fun twist to the farm style wedding. The menus were printed on brown recycled paper, and the table numbers were laser cut from wood.
Guests were also treated to pots of organic chocolate spread, Honest which I can tell you from first hand experience, was divine! Each guest favour was tagged with recycled paper tags and tied with soft twine.
And last, and most deliciously, the cake was a beauty and stood 3 tires high and wrapped in hessian ribbon and decorated with beautiful white floral detail.
Laura and Michael’s wedding was organic and simple, yet striking and romantic alll at the same time. Congratulations to the happy couple and thank you for letting us be a part of your special, one of the many reason’s we’re so lucky to be Cape Town wedding planners!
