Wedding Planner Cape Town Celeb Wedding
We have plenty of fabulously up-market and deliciously uber-glam new weddings to show off, but instead I’d like to take a moment to share with you why one of our most casual weddings that recently took place in our beautiful wine lands, has been one of my favourites.
Although they may all be undeniably unique, almost all pre-wedding couples (and not just the ones we’ve had the good fortune to work with), have followed a similar path through their wedding planning journey. Over the years I’ve started to notice a pattern which has become an almost predictable rite of passage to deciding on a couples’ perfect wedding scenario.
Firstly, a couple will state categorically that all they want for their Cape Town wedding is a casual, low key celebration that will comprise of an unpretentious, low cost, night together with only their closest family and friends. This vision will usually include casual seating and floating canapés at a picnic or cocktail style afternoon or evening.
Then, once said couple start the planning of their Pinterest-Perfect Picnic Wedding and open the Pandora’s box of wedding planning, they very soon learn what it all entails and that regardless of the size of their wedding, the cost of many expenses such as venue hire, photographer, marriage officer, hair and makeup artist etc etc will remain the same and requires the same amount of planning and organization.
The couple will also realize soon enough how many of their loved ones they don’t want to exclude from the most important day of their lives, so naturally, plans evolve and wedding visions grow, and before you know it, we are planning a large, formal, and glamorous affair in the heart of Cape Town’s wine lands, with chandeliers, oysters, and a champagne tower to match the custom ice sculpture waterfall set in soft hues of ambient lighting.
Which brings me back to Tara and Derek’s gorgeous picnic wedding. As a wedding planner, Cape Town sets the scene time and time again for glamorous weddings all year around, but Tara and Derek’s wedding was somewhat different. What I love so much about this wedding is that at the beginning, when we started planning Tara and Derek’s special day, they described a casual, relaxed, super-informal picnic wedding with only their closest family and friends, much like the one I described above. But what was different about this wedding is that the end result was exactly what the couple wanted, they stuck to their initial idea and ended up with the Pinterest Perfect picnic wedding they had both envisaged all along, and it. was. MAGICAL!!
Tara, a gorgeous South African blond bombshell, married Derek, an American CNN Weatherman, at their friend’s wine farm in Franschhoek on an absolutely perfect summer’s day in Cape Town.
The couple’s guests all sat on picnic blankets, under umbrellas to watch the ceremony, and each picnic spot was kitted with an adorable picnic basket filled with useful treats for the party ahead, such as sunblock, snacks, disposable cameras, candles, and other fun surprises.Each guest was gifted a delicious bottle of wine from the hosting estate, Boekenhoutskloof, and spoilt with a craft beer draught stand.
After the ceremony and picnic dinner, the newlyweds and their guests danced the night away, with only the trees above them, and only the stars to light them.
In all my years as a wedding planner Cape Town has never hosted a truer and more sincere wedding. Well done Tara and Derek, for hosting a romantic and casual wedding, exactly as you planned.
