As a seasoned wedding planner, Nicolette has some opinions on a hugely important part of the wedding, that is often overlooked by bridal couples during their wedding planning journey; chairs. Here, Nicolette shares her thoughts and advice on these often neglected items:
Personally, I have a “thing” about chairs at a wedding. If they’re not beautiful and in great condition you might as well just go home. It’s a miniscule percentage out of your wedding budget to hire in beautiful chairs if your venue doesn’t provide them. Let’s face it, there are more chairs than anything else in your wedding reception space and that makes a big impact when you walk into a room or look at your photos later on. Nice chairs are one of the factors that makes the difference between “huh, nice wedding” and “wow, this looks incredible!”.
We are lucky enough to have a beautiful variety of different chair options available to rent for weddings in the Cape Town area, which I will describe below.
Tiffany Chairs
My favourite, and the most popular, Tiffany chairs. These are beautiful, classic, and go with just about any décor concept. These beauties, best used for wedding receptions, come in white, silver, gold, dark brown, white washed, or even clear (these are called “Ghost Tiffany chairs”).
The white Tiffany chair is possibly the most popular wedding chair as the white will go with your wedding whites, white linen table clothes, and will just add an elegant, classic and romantic look to your reception space.
Tiffany chairs also come in gold, dark and light brown/wood, and silver. Adding gold or silver chairs to your reception space, depending on your colour scheme, could be the perfect way to bring everything together.
More unique versions of Tiffany chairs include, my favourite, the white washed Tiffany chair which can be used for any wedding with a natural, rustic, or vintage theme.
Another unique Tiffany chair is Ghost Tiffany chair, perfect for a modern, elegant, and clean cut, wedding reception.
Wimbledon Chairs
The Wimbledon chair is comfortable, sturdy, and cost effective for almost any wedding.
Wimbledon chairs are perfect for outdoor ceremonies and add a beautiful, simple touch of white to the great outdoors.
These versatile chairs are also great for receptions with a simplistic or modern look and feel.
Covered Dining Chairs
Many venues offer standard covered dining chairs, and, if used correctly, they can be a suitable addition to your reception décor. Always just make sure that the covers are in great condition and will be clean on your big day.
Alternative Seating
Bridal couples are increasingly choosing alternative seating for their wedding guests and this can include anything from wooden church pews and benches, to covered hay bales, or even an eclectic mix of a variety of styles for a more relaxed and intimate feel.
Upcoming Trends in Chairs
Two chairs that seem to be rising in popularity are the Ghost chairs and Napoleon chairs. While the Napoeon chair is perfect for classic weddings with an elegant, old-world feel, the Ghost chairs will add a modern and sleek look to any fun, contemporary or avant-garde wedding.
