Wedding Planner Tips (Part3): Create Your Own Winter Wedding Wonderland

Silver Embelishment

The wedding planner team at Nicolette Weddings suggests that the planning of your winter wedding embraces the romantic season, and need not be restricted by it.

Your winter wedding can sparkle with a majestic wonderland theme using a white, grey, and silver template; from the invitations, bridal and retinue outfits, through to décor and flowers. Imagine yourself as the picturesque bride flaunting a white, silver embellished dress, warm in your luxurious white faux-fur shrug, and surrounded by your grey, or charcoal clad bridesmaids.  For the reception, hang dazzling crystal snowflakes below frosted chandeliers, over tables adorned with white winter lilies and silver centre pieces. Your guests can warm up with white hot chocolate and be treated to your sugary-snow covered white and silver wedding cake.

On the other hand, some brides may prefer to have a cosy, intimate wedding where friends and family can share the warmth of glühwein in front of burning log fireplaces, with hearty dishes served at a white, wooden and deep ruby-red decorated venue. White and red roses, and an abundance of candles to match, create a warm and intimate setting for your reception.

On the practical side, venues and suppliers, even your wedding planner, are often more flexible with dates and more open to price negotiations for out-of-season weddings. Different foods and flowers to summer weddings will also be available during this time of year for your unique affair. Your winter wedding will also benefit from no, or at least less, wind than a summer wedding, which your make-up and hair stylists will surely be thankful for – but keep a dramatic coat and beautiful lace covered umbrella, to match your colours, handy in case it rains!

Winter Wedding

As for setting a date, why not schedule your wedding for the night of the winter solstice? This romantic gesture on the longest night of winter is symbolic of the good things to come and the warm future ahead for the newly united.

Lastly, the chilly run-up to your winter wedding will build that much more anticipation for your well-deserved hot hot hot honeymoon. Fortunately, our South African winters don’t often come with snow, which should help the bride avoid any issues she may have with cold feet.
